About Us

Greger and Michelle prove that ability never defines potential.

Greger and Michelle first met in culinary school through a special needs secondary program called Arc Broward—right around the time the world was adjusting to COVID. Since in-person classes weren’t possible, they spent most of their time connecting over FaceTime. Those long conversations are where their friendship—and eventually, their relationship—began to blossom.

Their journey together officially started in early 2021. When Greger first met Michelle’s father, he was immediately handed a cigar before even getting a “hello.” Not knowing how to smoke one, Greger had a bit of a rough start—but for those wondering, it was a Perdomo Habano Connecticut Epicure. Over the next few years, Greger and his future father-in-law bonded over cigars, whiskey, and long talks about life, work, and family.

About Us

Greger has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. His father, Greger Jean-Louis Sr., often reminded him, “I always remember you saying as a kid you wanted to have your own business—now here’s your chance.” That encouragement, combined with Michelle’s love for coffee and Greger’s appreciation for cigars and rum, sparked an idea: a business that celebrates both of their cultures and passions.

That idea became Rum Roast & Roll.

Inspired by Michelle’s Cuban heritage and Greger’s Haitian roots, Rum Roast & Roll brings together the best of Caribbean flavors and traditions. Coffee is a natural fit—not only because Michelle loves it, but also because it’s a major part of both Haitian and Cuban culture. Cigar culture also plays a big role in Greger’s life. What he loves most about it is the community—how people from all walks of life can come together with no judgment, just good conversation and shared enjoyment.

Because Cuban cigars can’t be legally sold in the U.S., Rum Roast & Roll proudly features cigars from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic, along with recipes inspired by Haitian and Cuban traditions.

Today, Greger continues to work in the kitchen at Riverside Hotel, constantly learning and growing in the culinary arts. Michelle works with a private catering company, bringing her creativity and love for food to life every day.

Our Mission

At Rum Roast & Roll, our mission is to show that anyone—regardless of ability—can build something of their own. Greger and Michelle believe that having a disability should never stop you from chasing your dreams. Their goal is to inspire others through their shared passion for culinary arts, coffee, rum, and cigars.

As Greger says:

“Focus on your strengths, not your weaknesses. Surround yourself with people who lift you up—not those who put your goals down.”

On our website, you’ll find pairings that bring our favorite things together—like coffee with cigars or rum with rich espresso blends.

Join Greger and Michelle on this exciting journey. Rum Roast & Roll is just getting started—and there’s so much more to come.
